Hemenway House is built.
1869
Architect: Francis Jackson. Designed in the French Academic style and one of five adjoining houses built by George Wheatland Jr., it is located at 273 Clarendon Street (91 Marlborough Street). The house is purchased by August Hemenway and Harriet Lawrence Hemenway in 1883, combined with 213 Clarendon Street in 1890 and occupied by the family until 1933. The Massachusetts Audubon Society is founded here in 1896.* The building is purchased by the Episcopal City Mission in approximately 1934 and converted to Morville House, a home for senior citizens.
